Neeraj Chopra is a  young Indian athlete who competes in the Javelin throw. He is the one who won gold in the Tokyo Olympics, which was a great moment for all of us. Neeraj is one of the youngest JCO in the Indian Army. He is also the first athlete who has won gold in the IAAF World U20 championships in 2016.

Neeraj has also participated in Commonwealth and Asian games in 2018. Meanwhile, he has won gold in both games. Moreover, he is one of the only two Indians who has won gold in their prospective individual game.

Career

Early Training

Neeraj Chopra was first enrolled in a gymnasium, then he enrolled in a gym at Panipat. Meanwhile, when he was playing at Shivaji Stadium he saw javelin throwers practicing, then there he started practicing Javelin throw without any guidance and proper practice.

Meanwhile when Neeraj Chopra visited the Sports Authority Of India in Panipat. Jaiveer  Chaudhary first recognized his talent in 2010. Clearly seeing Neeraj’s ability Jaiveer Choudhary became his first coach.

And trained him for the upcoming competitions. Neeraj was trained on the basics of sports and learned from other experienced javelin players. Meanwhile after which he won his first medal, bronze in the district level championships.

Meanwhile, after taking training from Jaiveer, Neeraj Chopra took training in a sports complex, Panchkula. Here he was trained under Naseem Ahmed, who trained him on his long-distance running along with javelin throw. As Panchkula has not had much specification and training of javelin throw, so he learned from videos. 

Meanwhile, Neeraj was so much focused on the work that he downloaded videos of Jan Zelezny and practiced in the field. He practiced so much that he increased his range, from 55 meters to 68.40 meters, and won a gold medal in National Junior Athletics Championships on 27th October 2012.

International Career

Meanwhile, in 2013 Neeraj Chopra played his first International competition in Ukraine. He won his first international medal in 2014, at the Youth Olympics in  Bangkok. He achieved the first throw of 70 meters at senior National in 2014.

Moreover, Neeraj broke his previous world record in a junior category by throwing 81.08 meters in 2015. Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra’s involvement in the national camp makes a turning point in his career. As he received better facilities, a proper diet with proper training facilities.

Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra uses the full facilities and practices all day to give his 100 percent. And all his hard work was seen in the commonwealth games where he won a bronze medal.

Army Induction

Moreover, impressed by Neeraj Chopra’s performance at South Asian games and his future scope. The Indian Army has offered him the offer of Junior Commissioned Officer(JCO) in the Rajputana Rifles.

He was offered the rank of Naib Subedar, a rank that is not typically offered to athletes. Neeraj was formally offered the rank of JCO in December 2016.
